What an Olympics!
4 new countries won medals, 50-year-olds competed for medals, night views, and people won medals with COVID-19, these Olympic Games were crazy. But, the most interesting, and something that actually set a record was in the medal count. For the first time in Olympic Games history, two countries tied for the gold medal lead. China and the United States both finished with 40 gold medals. In this case, the real winner would be the United States with them winning 126 medals.
Paris did an amazing job running this Olympics. In fact, 5000 volunteers helped organize the games. The revenue report for the Olympic Games has not yet been released, but we know that NBC/Peacock received 20 billion minutes viewed. The 2024 Olympics is now the most streamed event in American history.
Another thing we know? India, the country with the most population (1.4 billion), did not win 1 gold. In fact, the athletes that come from the state of Indiana (which houses 6 million people), won more gold medals than India. Crazy. Also, the Nigerian government budgeted 12 billion Naira for the Olympics. Not one Nigerian athlete won 🤣🤣.
The carryover scenes were nice. Tom Cruise jumped off a building, got into a motorcycle, and then the recorded scenes came in. He goes into a plane, jumps off to skydive, and then makes the 2 O’s in Hollywood, 5 circles (Olympics logo). After that, the cyclist leads the group of people traveling to the beach (showing LA’s true color), and there, live content resumes with us hearing the band playing in front of a huge LA28 logo.
Speaking of California, the LA Times published this very nice article about Californian athletes at the Olympics. Check it out by clicking this link. https://www.latimes.com/sports/olympics/story/2024-08-10/california-athletes-at-the-paris-olympics.
The athlete that did the best at the Olympics this year would be Leon Marchand of France who won 4 golds and a bronze at the Olympic Games in swimming. Coming in next would be Torri Huske from the USA, who won 3 golds and 2 silvers in swimming again. 3rd would be Mollie O’Callaghan of Australia who won 3 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. Guess what she does? Swimmer too!
There was a lot of controversy over… everything related to the athletes. One of them was how they treated the athletes at the Olympic Village. Many of them were so angry with how things were being conducted, that they left. Some of these athletes literally slept on a public bench.
Other athletes… weren’t on their best behavior. A field hockey player from Australia tried to buy cocaine. He was taken into custody. He was 28 years old. The seller? 17! An Egypt wrestler is getting investigated for groping! Plus, Luana Alonso created a bad environment for the Paraguay team, so they took her out. Anthony Ammirati of France struck a deal with an… “adult entertainment company'“. Finally, there were some gender issues for an athlete.
To put all this in a simple word, wow.
With that, here is the final medal count.
One or two more player features are coming, but people, the NFL is back, we’re going to be spending some time talking about these teams!!!
Congrats on making it to the end of the Olympics, I wish I would've been there for the end, but the Olympics were fun to do for the first 3 days when I was writing for you but now, we gotta wait patiently for 2028 (or 2026 for Winter)
