Single Digit Losses ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH! || The Dodgers Are Not Ruining Baseball || Wednesday Roundup
Edition #226
NBA:
So, uh, why don’t we talk about the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who somehow have managed to only have single-digit losses this late into the season?
It isn’t extremely rare, but it’s definitely rare, and the only teams that come to mind who’ve accomplished this would be the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls and the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors. The Warriors had a 39-4 record at midseason, finishing the season with a 73-9 record. The Bulls had a 38-3 record at midseason, concluding the season at 72-10.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently 35-7, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are 36-6. Although the Thunder are lower in the NBA standings, they are expected to reach 71 wins, while the Cavaliers are expected to reach 67 wins.
The Thunder and the Cavs have already played against each other 2 times, and will not meet each other the rest of the regular season. During their first meeting, the Thunder lost 122-129, but won their second meeting just 8 days later, 134-114. So, I guess you can argue that the Thunder are better.
The Thunder are 9th in points, 20th in rebounds, 15th in assists, 1st in steals, 5th in blocks, 11th in FG%, and 2nd in turnovers. The Cavaliers are 2nd in points, 15th in rebounds, 5th in assists, 12th in steals, 26th in blocks, 2nd in FG%, and 3rd in turnovers, so there is definitely some contrast between the two.
Plus, the OKC Thunder doing spectacularly was expected to some level. Everybody didn't foresee the Cavs doing 1st place-level good, especially with first-year head coach Kenny Atkinson.
So, there’s that. The first Thunder and Cavs match was extremely exciting. Could we really see this in the NBA Finals? Only time will tell (I’ve said this way too many times in the last few weeks…).
And there’s that. With the focus being on NFL content at this moment, this was my attempt to try to work on a bit of NBA content in this NFL stretch. Basketball coverage coming right after the NFL season is over.
MLB:
I’ve had enough of this talk that the Los Angeles Dodgers are ruining baseball. What the hell are we talking about? Yes, they signed Roki Sasaki. Yes, they signed Tanner Scott. Yes, they signed Ha-Seoung Kim. If you really think about it though, the only team who has really made those many acquisitions would be the Athletics.
Instead of talking about the Dodgers ruining baseball, why don’t we talk about the other 29 owners ruining baseball, as I say time and time again, baseball needs a salary floor, so these mega-millionaire owners, actually spend money…
