Normally, I would get a few requests for topics. Sometimes I use em, and sometimes I don’t.
But, this specific topic was asked by around 50 people and when getting asked every single day, well, I gotta do it.
Here are the best tips to win your fantasy football league this season. On a side not, join the Sports Square fantasy league right now!
QB:
There are so many amazing QBs in this league. The problem? Most of y’all go for those amazing QBs instead of thinking a little bit.
In most fantasy leagues, 10 rushing yards is one point and 25 passing yards is one point, making the rushing yards 60% more valuable. In that case, what do you do? You pick a running QB. But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick a guy like C.J. Stroud if you have to!
The best option is to go for a running QB. The first guy anyone would think of is Lamar Jackson. PLEASE DO NOT PICK HIM! He’s going to be an absolute bust this season. The Ravens now have the second hardest schedule in the NFL behind the Browns.
Instead go for someone like Jalen Hurts or Josh Allen. The Eagles have the tied-21st easiest schedule in the NFL and every source you look at, Josh Allen is ranked first. If not, go for Patrick Mahomes. DO NOT PICK CALEB WILLIAMS. That’s another stupid mistake that you must avoid. He’s a rookie. If you still want him, don’t make him a starter on your team. Backup QB is perfectly fine and he could also be a good trade piece.
RB:
This is the interesting one…
Christian McCaffrey is obviously the best of the best, no question about that. The thing that irks me the most is the Madden curse.
If you haven’t heard about it, the Madden curse is basically that the player featured on EA Sports video game, Madden NFL, is doomed to do bad. Whether it’s a decline in play, or a serious injury, something always goes wrong to the the player who’s the face of madden. Ray Lewis was the only player to survive and that was 20 years ago.
It doesn’t matter if you think nothing’s going to happen. If you draft him, your runningback position might just be gone. Instead play it safe. I love a pick for Bijan Robinson or Travis Etienne Jr., but if you can, get Saquon Barkley. The Eagles are a team that loves the run scheme. They have a running QB and always have a good runningback in store for a good season. Barkley is going to be used a lot by the Eagles, so make your RB pick worth it and pick Saquon.
WR:
I’m really tempted to say A.J. Brown here, but that’s not what’s going to happen.
CeeDee Lamb is a great pick. He’s going to be energized especially after his new contract. Woohoo!! Tyreek Hill is always a great pick. #1 WR for the Dolphins.
Someone who’s always been a good pick is Justin Jefferson. Out of all the articles I’ve read, never have I heard people calling him a bust for the fantasy season. Well, I’m not counting this one.
Please please DO NOT PICK JUSTIN JEFFERSON.
As good/bad Sam Darnold is to you, as good as Justin Jefferson is to pick up this team, picking him might be the thing that seperates you from your fantasy league playoffs.
Instead, I like Amon-Ra St. Brown. In fact, I drafted a team for the first time just yesterday and had an A grade draft with St. Brown as my first pick. One of the most underrated receivers I think is there in this WR class is Rome Odunze. He is ranked 44 on ESPN, but I feel like could slot in very well at the FLEX position. This all does depend on Caleb Williams though. He could also be your go to option when you have to pick a WR from Free Agency. If you’re going to draft him in a 10 man league, don’t do it before the 8th round though.
TE:
Now this is where my draft went bad, because even with Mark Andrews still available on the board, I went with Dallas Goedert.
I love this guy (not just as an Eagles fan), but as a general NFL fan too. Normally, when you think of the Eagles, you think Jalen Carter, Jake Elliot, Jalen Hurts, Devonta Smith, and A.J. Brown (in no particular order). He’s literally the most underrated TE there is.
He’s been with the Eagles from 2018 and in that time, he’s put up 3589 yards. That might not seem like much, but when you think about how many great Eagles receivers have been there from that time, suddenly you’ll realize that his passes get “stolen”. His average per reception last year was 10 yards. Travis Kelce’s was only .6 more.
This one here is a really risky pick because Goedert has never been the type of guy to get lots of fantasy points, so if you want to play it safe, go with Travis Kelce. Mahomes has receivers, but no one’s better than Kelce. Not a fan of the Mahomes/Kelce duo? Go the way of Sam LaPorta.
T.j. Hockenson is going to be the negative for this one. With the Vikings QB situation, this is not the man you want to put your fantasy hopes on.
K:
Let’s face it. Everyone who plays this position is great. There aren’t any outliers like Kadarius Toney.
But, with how the kickers point system works, it eliminated a few people from contention. Okay. Let me get straight to the point. You have to get Justin Tucker.
Brandon Aubrey is good. Butker is good. Koo is good. Moody is okay. But, you have to get Tucker. Now if you can’t and Aubrey, Butker, and Koo are taken, here’s what you do.
I’ve been saying it time and time again, but you have to draft Jake Elliot. Let’s compare him to Justin Tucker. In this decade, Elliot has attempted 107 field goals and has made 94 of them. He’s missed 13. Tucker on the other hand has attempted 146 and has 130. He’s missed 16. I’m just saying, pay attention to the Eagles kicker.
I don’t have a minus for the kicking one. Based on rankings by ESPN, Nick Folk would be the one I say y’all should pick.
D/ST:
You’ve got to go for Browns defense.
The Cowboys may have a few key players on defense, but remember, DaRon Bland is injured. So, only pick the Cowboys if you have to. Or else, whenever you feel like you’re ready, go for the Browns D/ST. This may be your fantasy team’s life-or-death decision.
The do not pick? Eagles defense.
This team is littered with rookies and aging veterans. Literally half the team’s core retired. Why put faith in them? Jalen Carter can’t carry this defense to give you 10+ points every game…
No Browns? No Cowboys? Go 49ers. The underdog pick here though is the Jets. Bit of a risk, since a few key pieces left, but if you have to go for the Jets, go for the Jets. Who knows? Sauce Gardner could get saucy again?!

'As good/bad as Sam Darnold is to you...'
We've talked about Sam Darnold before. Justin Jefferson should be my first receiver then?
Jokes aside, what is with fantasy football? Why are rushing yards 60% more important than passing yards? Why do we have to bend over backwards to pretend RBs are important to the modern game? I've always been a football data grinder, but I've never been a fantasy football guy because it feels so detached from the real game. I did my first fantasy draft ever just a little bit ago (my friends needed a replacement in their league last minute), and watching the league's best QBs go by round after round so I can draft third string RBs just gave me a bad feeling. It feels a lot more 'fantasy' than football.
To me, there must be some way to tweak the formulas to at least get the positional values in the right order (QB first, then WR, then TE, then DEF, then RB, then K). That would do a lot to put the 'football' back in fantasy football. This is more of a sports culture thing, but to me fantasy football has gone so far off unto itself that it drives away football fans that do not already understand the intricacies of what fantasy football is, and why would anybody want that?
