Blue Jays GM speaks out about Ohtani.
When we heard Ohtani was going to be a free agent, what did we think. Dodgers, Yankees, Padres, Giants, Red Sox, and maybe the Angels and Phillies.
What really happened? Dodgers vs Blue Jays, including a fake report by Sports Illustrated and Dodgers Nation about the Blue Jays actually receiving him.
On Wednesday, Atkins confirmed that Ohtani met with the Jays and toured their spring training facilities in Dunedin, Fla. Atkins was obviously disappointed that he wasn't able to land Ohtani, but did not think his team was simply as leverage just to get a better offer from the Dodgers.
"Absolutely not," he told reporters, including the Associated Press. "I feel strongly otherwise. We feel really good about the process. It was an incredible effort from ownership to business to baseball, people coming together. Not the outcome we wanted, but feel really good about the process and absolutely felt like it was authentic and real.
'We were obviously very disappointed with the outcome and it was a very difficult phone call to receive, one of the more difficult ones in my career. At the same time, (it was an) incredible process and group effort and collaboration that I feel so good about, not only that process but what it meant to be in that position for the organization, for the city, for the country. There's no doubt in my mind he was exceptionally attracted to this country, this city, this team. We felt incredible about the process, but we moved on."
The Blue Jays have made the playoff 3 time in the last 4 seasons. They have not won a playoff game since 2016, so this definitely should have stung for them.
David Tepper gets FINED 300K
Ever since Ron Rivera left, there’s been a whole for the worst owner.
That has now officially been awarded to David Tepper of the Carolina Panthers.
Why?
Well, he threw a bottle, right at a Jacksonville Jaguars fan after the trade he made to acquire the first pick in the NFL Draft, Bryce Young, threw an INT.
Of course, Tepper has to come clean after he gets fined 3/10 of a million, so he did. But it was pretty obvious he was faking it.
Also, the Panthers finished with the worst record in the league, and that means that the Chicago Bears get the first pick of the draft. So the Panthers can’t even rectify their mistake.
This was the statement the NFL issued.
"All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL," the league said in a statement.
Tepper stated, "I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose," he said. "I respect the NFL's code of conduct and accept the League's discipline for my behavior."
Tepper is the second-richest owner in the league, with a net worth of $20.6 billion. The fine represents less than 1% of 1% of his wealth.
Conclusion
Well, that’s it! We’re going to go into the NFL Playoff Picture and a bit of NBA tomorrow. I hope you’ve enjoyed this one, and we’ll go into the usual format starting tomorrow! It might actually not be a newsletter, but a podcast. It really depends.
