First of all, let me be the first person (hopefully outside your family), to wish you a Happy New Year! 2025 is upon us which means another year of predictions from Sports Square!
Let’s get straight to the point!
NFL:
CHAMPIONS: Kansas City Chiefs
RUNNER-UP: Philadelphia Eagles
Kansas City Chiefs are the pretty obvious choice, but the reason I chose the Philadelphia Eagles is because they have one of the best defenses and offenses this season, and the Lions are way too injury-plagued. Minnesota is great, but they’re not ready for the big game just yet.
NBA:
CHAMPIONS: Oklahoma City Thunder
RUNNER-UP: Cavaliers
While the Cavaliers are dominating everybody this season, I do feel like the Oklahoma City Thunder will finally get the job done here, and that’s because everything is functioning right for this team this season. (I would pull up a click, but the site I use is experiencing a data outage). If you don’t believe me, just take my word for it.
MLB:
CHAMPIONS: Los Angeles Dodgers
RUNNER-UP: Detroit Tigers
Yes, you read that properly. The NL really is dominating this year’s free agency, and as long as the Tigers sign Alex Bregman, which I do believe they will, then this team will be all set to make an amazing run this year. I picked the Dodgers in the NL because even with the Diamondbacks signing Burnes, the Dodgers do have a lot of success against him, and the Mets are not going to win the World Series the first year they take a run at it with their $765 million man, but they will make it close against the Dodgers in Game 7 of the NLCS.
NHL:
CHAMPIONS: Edmonton Oilers
RUNNER-UP: New York Rangers
I’ll figure out a way to explain this soon…
World Test Championship:
CHAMPIONS: Australia
RUNNER-UP: South Africa (in already)
While Australia still has its ways to go to make it, South Africa is already in the championship game. I do expect Australia to go back-to-back because the way they’re dominating India is nuts. The games are close, but man oh man can Australia win well.
MLS:
CHAMPIONS: Inter Miami CF
RUNNER-UP: LA Galaxy
I do feel like Messi can get it done this year.
WNBA:
CHAMPIONS: Las Vegas Aces
RUNNER-UP: Indiana Fever
The Aces are just too good to be missing out on the trophy again, and Caitlin Clark is just too good to not make it to the championship game. I don’t think her team will win it, but they sure will make it.
NWSL:
CHAMPIONS: Bay FC
RUNNER-UP: Kansas City Current
The Grand Slams:
Australian Open:
Djokovic vs Sinner. Djokovic wins.
Swiatek vs Sabalenka. Sabalenka wins.
French Open:
Sinner vs Alcaraz. Alcaraz wins.
Paolini vs Sabalenka. Sabalenka wins.
Wimbledon:
Djokovic vs Sinner. Sinner wins.
Swiatek vs Rybakina. Swiatek wins.
US Open:
Medvedev vs Alcaraz. Medvedev wins.
Guaff vs Pegula. Guaff wins.
Overall, on the men’s side, I expect this to be a tennis year really dominated by the current top 5. On the other hand, for the women’s side, expect this to be a very wild year, with many new people in the top 100.
Great going 👏👏👏
The Lions feel very good, but they did let 34 points to the 49ers. I'm not sure about the Eagles. They lost to the Commanders.
